Hallo,

ich stell mal die Originalnachricht von Cynthia Roethel hier rein, vielleicht findet sich ja hier ein Teilnehmer für diese wichtige Studie...

Subject: Critical DNA needed - Urgent
Date: Wed, 6 Sep 2006 10:10:39 -0400

Hello everyone,

If you never paid attention to our requests for DNA before - PLEASE pay attention now! Cross post this Email to any and
every list that even remotely concerns Rhodesian Ridgebacks or to any individuals who might be able to help.

If you have a bilaterally deaf Rhodesian Ridgeback or if you have a hearing (or deaf) SIRE, DAM or SIBLING of a deaf
Rhodesian Ridgeback -- their DNA is CRITICAL. Our researchers have pinpointed the general area where the deafness gene
is located, and are at a point in their research where the next DNA samples submitted could be the samples that
conclusively identify the marker for deafness in Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

I am not exaggerating when I say that if you have a dog, or know of a dog, that fits any of the above criteria - you
could very well be holding the ability to remove deafness in the breed in the palm of your hand! One more dog might
very well make the difference.

If you are aware of a dog that fits this criteria that you do not own or did not breed - DO NOT contact us with the
info. Despite how uncomfortable or awkward it might be go directly to the person who owns the dog and give them this
email and urge them to submit DNA. Please make the effort! This is not the time to worry about bad feelings. YES - it
is that important!

The RRCUS Health and Genetics Committee has done everything we possibly can do to rid our breed of this deafness. We
found the researchers and committed them to the work; we solicited for samples via email, phone calls and letters. We
can do nothing else except plead to those people who can help to submit the DNA we so desperately need. It is entirely
in their hands.

Contact Denise Flaim at Revodana@aol.com (516-676-3398) or me at houndscrest@earthlink.net (434-248-5018) for swabs.

If you don't want to talk to us, then contact the researcher directly - Dr. Mark Neff at mwneff@ucdavis.edu
(530-752-1318).

As always, confidentiality is assured.

Thank you.
