Weil's hier gerade passt: African Tails hat gerade einen groß angelegten Spendenaufruf gestartet. Von dem Geld soll eine eigene Kastrations-Ausrüstung gekauft werden. Genug Tierärzte haben sie zur Verfügung, das Problem sind die Gerätschaften. Vielleicht mag ja jemand ein paar Euronen spenden (im Aufruf reden sie von Sterilisationen, so weit mir bekannt, werden alle Hunde kastriert!):

As we’ve said time and time again, the only way we can ever hope to see is a difference is through intensive and ongoing sterilisation efforts. We value all donations tremendously and prioritise sterilisation in our daily work.

STERILISATION KIT
Our biggest goal this year is to purchase our very own sterilisation kit – which consists of an anaesthetic machine, oxygen cylinder plus all the surgical equipment and drapes. A full sterilisation kit will cost us in the region of R50 000.00 to procure, but once we have the full kit, the world is our oyster and the impact we can make will be tangible and visible. We have the vets, we have the venue – we just need the equipment to reach for the stars!

If we can up our sterilisation figures by running weekly MASS sterilisations, we will in turn alleviate the burden on all other welfare societies. The more dogs that get their snip, the fewer unwanted dogs there will be.

Please help us fulfil our dream of taking Cape Town by sterilisation storm this year so that the shelters can be emptier and suffering can be minimised.

The sooner we can reel in R50 000 specifically for our sterilisation kit, the sooner we can start to nip MILLIONS of unwanted litters in the bud. In 2011 we sterilised 1500 dogs and cats. With our own sterilisation kit, we can triple that amount. We hope you’re as excited about the prospect as we are!

Generell liegt der Fokus vor allem darauf Hündinnen zu kastrieren (vor allem die Hündinnen, die in den Townships mit Menschen zusammen leben) - Rüden werden aber natürlich ebenfalls kastriert.

Sorry, zweiaufeinenstreich, aber Deine Gedanken gehen sehr an der Realtität vorbei! Die Kastrationen werden am Fließband vorgenommen. Die Tierärzte spenden ihre Zeit dafür. Das ist ein Knochenjob! Da können keine minimal-invasiven Eingriffe vorgenommen werden. Nur African Tail hat letztes Jahr 1500 Hunde kastriert. Andere Organisationen bestimmt noch mal so viele. Und ja, bei und nach der Operation stirbt auch schon mal ein Hund (auch wenn sich alle Beteiligten die Beine für die Tiere ausreißen). Das lässt sich leider nicht vermeiden und wenn man sich das Leid vieler Straßen- und Townshiphunde anguckt, ist das ein Preis den man zahlen muss, WENN man nachhaltig helfen will.

Und Cathy hat's schon erklärt. Straßenhunde leben nicht in Rudeln und sie sind meist sehr unaggressiv Artgenossen gegenüber.

EDIT: noch ein Nachtrag: hier ist es zumindest so, dass kastrierte Rüden nicht so schnell getötet werden wie intakte, wenn sie von staatlichen Organisationen gesehen/gefangen werden. Geld ist dort keines da für Kastrationen. Eine Kastration (auch mit anschließendem wieder freilassen) könnte einem Rüden also durchaus das Leben retten.
